No! Mentafy only processes metadata (timestamps, changes, and document history), not full document text. Your writing stays private.
Institutions will not be able to see the actual content of your drafts. You have full control over your document text.
Instead, they only see general trends and insights about your writing process, such as:
When you worked on the document (timestamps).
How many times you made edits.
How long you spent writing in total.
Mentafy is committed to fairness and inclusivity. The system is designed to account for variations in writing patterns caused by disabilities, such as dyslexia or motor impairments, ensuring students are not unfairly flagged. This is achieved through:
Individualized analysis that considers a wide range of behavioral indicators.
Adaptive learning models that continuously refine the detection of AI versus human writing.
Mentafy integrates feedback from educators and students to ensure that its system is inclusive, ensuring no disadvantage for students with disabilities while maintaining academic integrity.
Mentafy promotes transparency, not punishment. It distinguishes between legitimate language assistance, like translation tools, and AI misuse, providing educators with insights into the student's actual contribution. This approach allows multilingual students to:
Demonstrate their learning process and how they’ve used translation tools.
Receive fair evaluations, where the extent of their personal input is visible.
Gain more tailored feedback that enhances both language proficiency and academic writing.
Mentafy encourages growth and fair assessment, ensuring that multilingual students are not unfairly penalized for using tools to support their learning.
Creative writing, even if freeform, is not an issue for Mentafy. Our system focuses on the writing process, not just the final product. Whether structured or creative, human writing follows identifiable cognitive patterns:
Drafting, revising, and refining processes that evolve over time.
Spontaneous shifts in ideas and the natural flow of thoughts as the text develops.
Mentafy’s transparent analysis allows creative writing to be fairly assessed by looking at the evolution of the work rather than its final style.
Mentafy processes data in secure, encrypted servers. We do not store deleted content or personal document text.
Mentafy prioritizes transparency and privacy. Our system avoids invasive tracking methods:
No keylogging or monitoring of live keystrokes.
No full version history access, only snapshot-based analysis of saved versions.
This approach ensures a balance between academic integrity and student privacy, providing a fair and privacy-conscious evaluation.
Mentafy is designed to respect privacy while ensuring fair assessment. Unlike proctoring tools, we do not record screens, monitor keystrokes, or track students in any intrusive way. Instead:
We analyze only saved versions of documents, not live activity.
Metadata insights are presented to educators, ensuring that only relevant information is shared.
Students are empowered to demonstrate their own work and receive feedback to improve their academic writing.
By focusing on transparency and supporting students' growth, Mentafy is a tool that fosters academic integrity without infringing on privacy.
It’s a tool that analyzes the entire revision history of documents created in cloud-based tools like Google Docs. This generates an Authorship Report to help you verify the authenticity of student submissions, without intrusive monitoring.
While your intuition is valuable, Mentafy provides concrete evidence to support and validate your observations. Instead of relying on stylistic clues alone, Mentafy analyzes the entire writing process, showing exactly how a text evolved over time.
Differentiate AI assistance from full AI authorship – Some students may use AI for minor refinements (e.g., improving phrasing as non-native speakers), while others rely entirely on AI-generated text. Mentafy makes this distinction clear.
Outsmart "smart" AI users – Advanced AI tools can mimic human writing styles, making detection by style alone unreliable. Mentafy tracks the writing process, not just the output, making AI misuse much harder to conceal.
Back up your instincts with data – With Mentafy, you don’t just suspect AI involvement—you have the evidence to prove it, ensuring fair and transparent academic evaluations.
While reviewing version history manually is an option, it is both time-consuming and intrusive:
Tedious to analyze – Understanding how a final paragraph was compiled requires sifting through countless revisions, which can be overwhelming and inefficient.
Excessive disclosure – Traditional version histories expose every edit, including minor mistakes and abandoned ideas, going beyond what’s necessary to verify authenticity.
Concise & data-driven insights – Mentafy streamlines this process, providing a clear, structured summary of document evolution without excessive or irrelevant details.
With Mentafy, you get the key insights at a glance, allowing for a more efficient, fair, and privacy-conscious review process.

This tracking not only captures the evolution of your work but also provides an authentic chronicle of the creative process, fostering transparency and accountability in your project endeavors. Outside of an active session, the system refrains from monitoring alterations made to your document.
You can set up sessions to start automatically as soon as you start writing in the document or make other file changes to the corresponding OneDrive project folder. This works through a push notification mechanism where Microsoft tells us that a change has occurred. Sessions always end, i.e. close automatically, after one hour of inactivity (inactivity = no new notes, photos, etc., file uploads, text changes.
